Benton Allen Emblom, M.D. Professional Affiliations Dr. Emblom specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopy, including open and arthroscopic treatment of shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle disorders. He also performs artificial joint replacement for arthritis of the shoulder, hip, and knee. In addition to traditional training in sports medicine, he has also received focused training in arthroscopic surgery of the hip. Dr. Emblom has presented research and instructional lectures at numerous orthopaedic and related conferences. He has also authored research and book chapters in topics related to orthopaedics and sports medicine. Dr. Emblom currently performs clinical and biomechanical research at the American Sports Medicine Institute. Dr. Emblom is a team physician for the University of Alabama and Hoover High School. He also helps take care of the Birmingham Barons minor league baseball team and participates in spring training activities with the Tampa Bay Rays. Education Endeavors A graduate of the University of Alabama, Dr. Emblom earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and mathematics. He received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine and completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery there as well. He then completed a one-year orthopedic sports medicine fellowship with Drs. Andrews, Clancy, Cain, and Dugas at the American Sports Medicine Institute, followed by a mini-fellowship in hip arthroscopy with Dr. Thomas Byrd in Nashville, Tennessee. Personal Life Dr. Emblom and his wife, Anna, have two sets of twins; fraternal girls Ella and Camille, and identical boys Lawton and Haston.
