Steven R. Nichols, M.D.
Steven R. Nichols, M.D. was a partner of Alabama Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center. He has recently joined Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center. His practice is concentrated in the surgical treatment of spinal disorders, including cervical and lumbar disease. He is also certified to perform Kyphoplasty for the treatment of compression fractures of the spine. He also performs adult reconstructive surgery, particularly related to knee and shoulder problems, and treats work and sports related injuries including arthroscopy.

An Alabama native, Dr. Nichols graduated from the University of Alabama in 1974, where he received a bachelor of science degree in biology. He then earned his medical degree in 1979 from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham and completed an orthopaedic residency at the Orthopaedic Hospital of Charlotte and Charlotte Memorial Hospital and Medical Center, affiliated with the University of North Carolina.

Certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1987, Dr. Nichols was re-certified in 1998. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Back Society, Southern Medical Association, Southern Orthopaedic Association, Medical Association of the State of Alabama and the Jefferson County Medical Society. Dr. Nichols is also involved with school and community activities and has served as team physician and consultant for several Birmingham area high schools and colleges.

Dr. Nichols has four children: Caroline, Hughston, Steven and John. They are members of Covenant Presbyterian Church. An avid outdoorsman, Dr. Nichols enjoys hunting, fishing and wildlife management as well as golf in his free time.
