On May 11, 2023 I suffered a significant knee injury that brought my softball season to an abrupt halt. I was on the mound pitching when a Hazel Green player hit a grounder up the middle.  When I went to backhand the ball, my left cleat got stuck in the ground and I felt a pop in my left knee.

My sophomore year, I was doing box jumps during a workout when I landed awkwardly and twisted my right knee. At the time, I didn’t think too much about it, because it didn’t hurt that bad. I thought I just had a bad sprain. I had some aching pain, and I would ice my knee when it would periodically swell.

In the heat of the play, I’m thinking “if this pass is intercepted, Thompson is taking it back for a pick 6 and this game is over.” Instinctively, I put my left foot in the ground, made a quick change in direction and attempted to grab the floating ball. When I did that, my left knee buckled and simply gave out on me.

In the fall of my 9th grade year, my hip started bothering me. I was playing basketball, and I was getting up at 5am and going out and running because I wanted to be successful at both basketball and cross country.

One day during basketball practice, I took an awkward step on the court and felt a pain and sensation in my hip. I remember thinking to myself, "that step didn't feel right."

In January of 2023, I was working on a custom cutting board and was using a woodworking planer. I put the cutting board through the planer to smooth it out when the board kicked back and severely bent back the thumb on my right hand. Immediately after this happened, there wasn’t too much pain, but I looked at my thumb and knew something wasn’t right. 

In March of 2022, my husband and I took a vacation to Israel. On the flight home, I started experiencing muscle spasms in my back. I dismissed the muscle spasms to being confined to my seat for the 15+ hour flight home. However, a few days later I woke up with an intense, sharp pain in my neck and numbness and tingling in my left arm. The pain, numbness and tingling intensified over the next few months. My quality of life continued to dwindle each and every day.
